Pisa and Lucca

Departure the villa at 9.00 am. The 1st stop will be at the Charterhouse of Calci  (10 miles before Pisa). This 1500 rooms monastery is entirely frescoed and has an incredibly rich decoration thanks to the wealth of the Carthusian monks who used it from 1366 to 1987. We will then reach the masterpieces of the Romanesque architecture in the "Miracle Square" of Pisa, with its famous leaning tower, cathedral and baptistery. Lucca built in 1504 is wrapped by massive red brick walls which gives the city its special appearance.  It’s narrow lanes and ancient Roman street plan provides a unique concept to a hilltop city which is flat in the centre allowing local and tourist to ride bicycles free of traffic.  Our guide will take us to other sites within the city walls with free time to explore.

Pisa and Viareggio

Departure the villa at 9.00 am. We will then reach the masterpieces of the Romanesque architecture in the "Miracle Square" of Pisa, with its famous leaning tower, cathedral and baptistery.  On to Viareggio one of the most famous beach resorts in Tuscany, which also features one of the biggest carnivals (Carnevale Di Viareggio) in Italy. The city traces its roots back to the first half of the 16th century when it became the only gate to the sea for the Republic of Lucca. The oldest building in Viareggio, known as Torre Matilde, dates back to this time and was built by the Lucchesi in 1541 as a defensive fortification to fight the constant menace of corsair incursions. Viareggio also has great seafood restaurant, shopping and night light.

Cinque Terre (Ligurian region)

Leaving the Villa around 8:30am, our guides will drive us in minivans to Cinque Terre, the part of Italy where Tuscany meets the Northwestern region of Liguria. The Cinque Terre (Five Lands) are five tiny seafront villages strung along one of the most dramatic stretches of the Ligurian coast. Each is a picturesque jumble of pastel-coloured houses gathered around a small fishing harbour. Above the huddle of houses, mountains covered in woods and lush vegetation provide a beautiful backdrop. Savage cliffs tumble to the sea on all sides, cut by terraces of vines and olives that date back thousands of years. We will reach Riomaggiore and then move on to Manarola using the “Via dell’ Amore” (Walkway of Love), a famous and romantic easy walkway carved along the cliffs. We then get to Vernazza, considered the most picturesque of the towns where we will have some free time for lunch. After lunch we will relax by the seaside or browse in the many eclectic shops before our return to the Villa.
